Pratt Completes Marine Fire Investigation Training
Last week, Mr. Jeremiah Pratt attended the Marine Fire Investigation class in Beaufort, SC. Developed through a colaboration between the IAAI and the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), training was provided by IAAI facilitators, industry leading marine fire investigators, marine surveyors, engineers and special investigators. Topics included the areas of safety, hot surface ignition, marine explosions, electrical systems, vessel terminology, interviews, data collection, scientific method, methodology, legal considerations and evidence.
Mr. Pratt had the opportunity to perform a hands-on investigation of a pre-burnt vessel.
The class required participants to work in teams to complete the investigation and present findings to the instructors (as an investigator would do for a client), but this is not a new experience for Jeremiah. At Genesis Forensics, although there is always a lead investigator on each case, our experts use a team-oriented approach to review challenging or complex cases together. This allows an opportunity to provide alternate views and improve on hypotheses and conclusions.
